Guy I love the way the way the grill was copied to a “t” in the first picture, it is real art the way your team pays such attention to detail. Every time I see a new model in your posts I spend more time looking at the small details. That Berliet definitely looks mean enough to haul that D-9 also.
One question I have is on the old style trucks in our neck of the woods they had the most outrageous antennas all over them, from CBs to two way radios. Do you not put those on yours because you feel it may take away from the actual customization or did they have a different way to communicate and listen to hard rock while working? One of the “older” gentlemen on this forum and I were discussing this so I figured I would ask because he is shy.
Thanks
Steve

Steve,

I don't think that we went the same route than in the US, with antennas all over truck cabs. CBs and 2-way radios became popular here end of the seventies, mainly with long-distance truckers - as far as I can remember - but never resulted in numerous antennas being installed. Trucks modeled by Azur Modelisme (most of them are pre-1980s, mainly involved in local transport) do not have these antennas and if you look at restored "vintage" European trucks or models offered today by GMTS, Tekno or WSI, very few have these items, indicating that this was not a common installation within the industry.

I hope it helps.

Guy thanks for the information. We mainly had the funky antennas for certain industries such as Redi mix cement, gravel-asphalt and mainly in towing companies. In most of the gravel companies the loader operators always had the two way radios to go between the office and the trucks they were loading. Independent truckers would use CBS so the loader operator had one of those in the cab also. We used both a CB and a two way in our 988 only for a couple of years and then they came out with a Nextel which was a combination of both a cell phone and two way. They were very helpful with running the business in the day.
I like like your towing scene.

Steve,

Thanks for your positive comments.

During the sixties, numerous ex-US Army demilitarized trucks are turned, at minimum cost, into heavy haulage civilian equipment. Two French examples:

- At rear: White 666 6x6/2 tractor (modified Dinky Toys model) + Dyson 2-line ultra-low bed lowloader (A. Smith kit) loaded with a 62 tonnes ACB Industrie foundry item (homemade),
- At front: Brockway B666 6x6/2 carrier with modified bridge laying body (modified Dinky Toys model) and Fruehauf 1-axle + 1-line drawbar lowloader (modified Tekno model) carrying an Akerman 700 cable shovel (modified Tekno model).

To be continued.
