modelmaniac, I needed 4 large tractor wheels to upgrade an old Matchbox tractor into a Muir-Hill 161 and found out that the front ones of the 1/50 Siku tractors were perfect (right size and low cost donors). Here they are replacing the thin original ones of the Matchbox model (modification currently in stand-by):   As I was then left with 2 incomplete models, they became loads for the Volvo, with flange hubs simply installed where wheels had been removed. I remember having that Muir-Hill tractor,years ago.If I remember rightly,the trailer was red?Always thought the original tyres were too thin.Looks so much better,now.Those tyres look right.Was always looking at the hitch point,I think the trailer was properly hitched when it was 'locked' in position.

I think that the connection between tractor and trailer was a sort of hydraulic system (designed by JCB? They provided the dumper trailer, as far as I know) used to dispatch the trailer weight but so far, I haven't been able able to find any of its technical details.
Any information on this system will be highly appreciated.

The hitch point would have been the weakest point,taking a lot of stresses.No surprise JCB involved.You can clearly see the idea for ADT's came from these machines,and others.Surprised JCB don't do a bigger range of ADT's.

Steve, The wheelbase of the real tractor is 78' or 198cm: http://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/007/9/0/7904-muir-hill-161.htmlMatchbox model wheelbase being 3.9cm, that gives a 50.77 reduction factor, which is very close to a 1/50 scale. Regards. Guy

Guy thanks for the information, I guess Matchbox had different scales on the models they developed. Hopefully we will see that Muir- Hill when finished. I do remember seeing those models from Matchbox, but that was back in the mid 70’s.

Steve, I agree with you, Matchbox used all sorts of scales, even within the same range. For example, in the original "Models of Yesteryear" series, with approx. 110+ models ranging from 1/34 to 1/130, I have noted 10 models in 1/48 scale plus 3 (1/49), 2 (1/50), 2 (1/51) and 2 (1/52). Some Matchbox models were produced in an accurate 1/50 scale, like the UK Muir-Hill tractor/dump trailer (that's my opinion), 3 US tractors (DiamondT, Mack and Peterbilt) and the German Mercedes-Benz coach, either in the "King Siz"e or "Collectible"s series:      And I'm sure that there are plenty more Matchbox models in the 1/48-to-1/52 scale. Guy the work platform is nice, have never seen that before what did you modify on it. That Rimac is a nice model, I have one of those, did you have to do any modifications to that.

Steve Steve, I didn't know that model either and found it in a list of a friend getting rid-off his collection 2 years ago. As he was selling everything discounted from its original purchase price, that was a good bargain, the model being at least 25 years+ old. As far as I remember: - I cut one length of the lattice structure and glued it on the mobile trolley, so that the access platform could remain in position when in transit and I moved the red section to the very top of the 2nd element instead, - I didn't modify anything on the Ros Rimac stone crusher.
