The trailers come with those ratchet straps across the deck, I don't care for those and cut them off of the one trailer. Here you can see the large collar that you could grind down to bring the trailer down lower on the fifth wheel and letting the first axle to have better contact with the ground but none of it is really necessary in my opinion. All in all a pretty nice little trailer in my opinion.

Ahah!!! So the first trailer axle doesn't touch the ground enough to roll???????????????????? And you never mentioned the width of the trailer. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, you banana is growing cause you ain't coming clean!!! Put it with another tractor or two. Then lets see. Try it with the new IH tandem. Must admit it looks good.

They are that hard to find? I have been looking for quite some time and I come up empty each time. Not sure if people are hoarding them or what

Also I thought this trailer was a Manac but I think it is an Alutrec. The Tonkin 1/53 flatbed is a Manac, I have one of those too.

Gents,
I made below a short comparison between the 3 scales (1/53, 1/50 and 1/48) using data from the Trail King step deck combo TK 80 ACS-28.
1- Dimensions of that trailer are: - length: 47'10" which is 1458cm, - width: 102" or 259cm, - deck height: 38" or 96.5cm.
2- A 1/48 scale model should be (LxWxH): 30.38x5.40x2.01cm.
3- A 1/50 scale model should be: 29.16x518x1.93cm.
4- A 1/53 scale model should be: 27.51x4.89x1.82cm.
The more visible discrepancies between tractor and semi-trailers of different scales are generally width and height: - width: 0.29cm (1/50-1/53) and 0.51 (1/48-1/53), - height: 0.11cm (1/50-1/53) and 0.19 (1/48-1/53). Differences between 1/50 and 1/53 can be considered as negligible but you will note for sure the difference between 1/48 and 1/53, looking at the combination.
When it comes to length, that's worse with respectively 1.65cm and 2.87cm differences: these will be noted, for sure.
5- Just for the fun, a 53' Wabash Duraplate dry van, which dimensions are (LxWxH): 53' (1615cm) x 102 3/8" (260cm) x 13'6" (411cm), should give: - 1/48: 33.65x5.42x8.56cm, - 1/50: 32.30x5.20x8.22cm, - 1/53: 30.47x4.91x7.75cm. In that case, even the 1/50-1/53 difference will be visible, in particular because of length and height discrepancies.
I hope it helps. Guy

A bunch of good info, thanks! A quick look on the 'bay confirms that these may be a bit scarce. I'll have to deepen my search. Tonkin also have a spread axle flatbed that looks pretty decent. Might be a nice piece to mix in with the Sword East trailers.
Thanks again all!

Rob The flatbeds are nice I have 3 of them. Came in a set with a flatbed carrying 2 as a load. The details are not as good as the east but the set was $60 bucks so.

Rob The Tonkin spread axle flat is great looking. Many years ago I tried to team it up with 1/50 tractors. It will not work on any I tried. The first axle on the Tonkin(closest to the fifth wheel) will not touch the ground. The fifth wheel is too high. You cannot customize it to fit either. The larger wheels will not fit under the Tonkin flatbed. Obviosly this drop deck fits better because the deck is lower to the ground. But it looks good. There is a definite difference in size , albeit it slight.

Ah, good to know. I think I'll still look for one on the cheap. Sounds like it could be OK for static display, or maybe without a tractor. Need some diversity for my haulage fleet! Rob

Quinella maybe the axle closest to fifth wheel is a lift axle, I think that has been a problem in the past for you on some other trailer you had. Just saying. RI Red (which is a rooster not a chicken) putz

If you use a first gear Mack Quinella it works great. With the short wheel base on that tractor its like it was made for that truck.
