Lampson Heavy Haulage
A Heavy Haulage Frenzy hit Melbourne and surrounds as Victorian's witnessed a unique and rare heavy haulage event though Gippsland east of Melbourne and through the Melbourne suburban streets.
AGL Power in Gippsland needed to tranport a power generator to Port Melbourne so it could be shipped to Germany for repairs. Heavy haulage was the only option. From the 1st of February until the early hours of the 4th, starting at it's base in Gippsland, the 108 metre convoy slowly made it's way to Port Melbourne. Traveling at 20 km per hour, the Melbourne suburban section was undertaken at night to minimise traffic disruption.
In this video the convoy of over 20 vehicles and the heavy haul itself can be seen at Dingley, Bentleigh and Gardenvale under the cover of night as it makes it's way through the Melbourne streets.
Judging by the crowds, the convoy generated plenty of interest along the way. Filed 3rd February 2018.

Unloaded from a ship at Corio Quay in Geelong, the transformer is destined for a wind farm project near Lismore, and is one of the heaviest Superloads hauled in Victoria in recent years. In this video on the early hours of January 8th we see the Superload at the intersection of the Princess Highway and St Georges Road/Cox Road in Geelong where an excited crowd had gathered to see the mammoth load; hauled by three Lampson trucks on special heavy haulage trailers. The load is 115 metres long, 5.12 metres wide and 5.5 metres tall and can only be hauled at a maximum speed of 20km/h. The whole operation took months of planning by VicRoads.
