Ken great looking set up and as Claus said the warning flags look great. Steve
Q it’s good thing you retired and did not buy one because you would have that 8 loaded on a First Gear tag trailer with the blade resting over the back ramps. Steve

Thanks for the comments Q, Claus, and Steve. I made the flags out of orange duct tape I found at the hardware store.

Hi kcm,
yeah, that's a great setup. Pipeliners classic you say? Well, also a forest machine, maybe for clearing storm damage. Or maybe an excavator got bogged down and they called in the K to pull it out? You see a rig like this on the highway and immediatly start to think over what the D8 is going to do next.
Cheers, Max

Ken when you pair a FG Talbert to a Sword Pete do you change the trailer king pin? Just curious because at times I have tried this setup in the past and got aggravated fast, with the slightest bump the trailer rolls off the truck.

Yep, I did change this one quite some time ago to a piece of brass rod.

Ken the second picture with whole scraper being transported like that, what type of permits were required. Would that move still be legal today? Steve

We don need no stinkin permits...You couldn't do that leagally then or now. This was on a city permit that had no enforcement, and we were just going a short didtsnce away. Years ago a lot of companies around here moved the pans with a truck tractor that had a puntle hitch and a concrete block on the 5th wheel.

Still used quite often in the UK, too. With the rear axle directly on the road, it is a dramatic sight for sure. From a HO scale perspective, you can use kibri undercarriage parts to make a nice D8H or K and use the roco 631 dirt pan. Cheers, Max

Ken thanks for the information, that looks like it might be hard to handle especially when your trying to out run the blue lights. Did you give the customer a discount on the move for not having to purchase permits and escorts. Steve

Splendid pictures Graham. Is that a Murray trailer? That set-up would be killer in model form. Too bad Alan Smith was the only one to make a scraper trailer. We nee another one with far more detail. I don't think Chuck could stomach another new model right now. Great discussion topic fellows. CAW
