Hello. I am getting involved in working with construction models. I have an ZON white metal kit that will be a long reach for my 1/50th scale Cat 375.I want to add hydraulic lines, hoses, etc. to it. If anyone has made their own lines, etc. and would be willing to post them for me to look at, I would be Most appreciative.
Thanks,
Gregg

I've made a few hydraulic lines, here are some I did on my 345B RB. I typically use brass rod for all the hard lines, rubber bead cord for the hoses, and jewelry crimps for the chrome connectors. I did need to drill out the crimps slightly to get the rod and cord to fit inside for a stronger connection.

I have a few more questions if you wouldn't mind answering them.
Thanks,
Gregg

That's good timing as I am just getting started building a Maxcavator (from French contractor GEOCEAN), using a cheap deal/minor damaged CAT 568 road builder:
Geocean Maxcavator

I will build the extended carriage tower and hi-reach arm in brass/copper, but it will sure need extra hydraulics.

Thanks for the information. I did not know about the jewelry crimps. I may use gauge 28 and 30 electrical wire rather than rubber cord.

Clean hydraulics works on the 345B, by the way. Applause

Stephane

Thank you so much for replying back. I like the way you have the lines clamped to the boom. But I can't figure out how you fashioned the clamps. And, if you don't mind posting another picture of the toy with a view of how you have the lines leave the car body and travel up the boom. Many thanks in advance.

I just used some more of the crimps and glued them to styrene to act as brackets. I had to make sure to slide the crimps on before I bent the rod, I failed to do that on the first one d'oh! . One of the pictures is a bit blurry but it's the only one I have of the backside of the boom with the lines on it before paint. I based the hydraulics as closely as I could to pictures of 345Bs I could find online.

Thanks so much, you did a great job! Where did you find the styrene booms?

Thank you! I did all the styrene work from scratch.

Very well done.

But I'd like to know what exactly you are using as crimps.

Here's a link to some 3mm ones on Amazon. Is that what you are using?

3mm crimps

Stephane,

I did a video for the method that I use in the event you'd like to look at other options:

Thank you Dex. Working with something so small takes a lot of patience as I'm sure you know.

S, the crimps I use are from Fire Mountain Gems, they are 2x1.1mm with a .76mm inner diameter.
