So I just recently (November) acquired this brilliant brilliant model. The price was about double original retail, but I had the money so I did it. I was totally stoked because it also came with the tank which I thought was a pretty rare collecting opportunity. I had the perfect setup, or so I thought... I just recently found out that the tank is not in 1/50 scale but more like 1/55? So, I was totally shocked then disappointed. My OCD cannot allow me to have non correctly scaled items together so that tank is pretty much worthless to me now which is a damn shame since it is so nice. I have purchased and will build the 1/48 Tamiya Abrams, with 1/48 being an acceptably scaled substitute to my mind.
So does anyone know the story behind this? I'm curious to know how this ended up happening. I'm sure this wasn't an intentional slip. Thanks, David

David, I had the same problem when I bought the TWH HET model and went for a 1/48 Wartanks Abrams tank. See abstract of my presentation of both models in this forum: GuyM wrote:[...] I was planning to buy a Sword Abrams tank to go with the TWH Oshkosh/Systems & Electronics tank transport combination, when I found out that the MBT was modelled... in a 1/56 scale!!! I then decided to load instead a resin-made static model produced by Wartanks in a 1/48 scale (Wartanks was a short-lived European model company, from Italy I think) as the French Gaso.line version (used as a master by Wartanks) was no more available [...] To answer your question, I must confess that I have no clue why Sword decided to go for a 1/56 scale on a tank destined to be transported by the 1/50 TWH unit: strange decision, to say the least! I hope this helps. Guy

Apparently (as I heard it) there were issues with making a 1/48 - /1/50 scale tank and Chuck / TWH went with a scale that was already available.

Oh wow. Seems like NOT intentional deception then (my bad). Which makes sense why the box is all white with no information and just about everyone who sells it considers it 1/50. Damn. But Chuck is still a diecast demigod to me. Still cant beat the old days of TWH/Sword. Anyone want to buy a model tank? Not quite 1/50...

I don't think there was any deception, Chuck was upfront with everyone when the model first came out about the scale discrepancy. Now other sellers may have listed it wrong, but that can't be blamed on Chuck. Flickr Photostream

Let me clarify my post a little: Chuck advertised the tank as 1/56, the tank was produced in that scale.

Thanks for the questions and for defending my honor. I appreciate it!
The tank was available and already tooled at the time. We did mention in our ads that the tank was slightly off scale but it looked good on the unit and we went with it.
The real star of the show was the HET and Trailer.
It was not meant as a deception but I understand the concerns!

Hi been watching this post, I bought the Abrams tank with the Het trailer looks to be a nice model but as mentioned in the post abit out of scale. I bought a DOOBI D9R Military Track-Type Tractor from Cpy models 1/50 scale looks great on the Het trailer Leon.

The new Solido military hardware which is featured as cargo loads for the MTH O Scale flat cars are true to scale 1/48 for the Humvee, the Stryker, and the Bradley APC. The detail is very nice on these. If you have any inkling towards trains then grabbing a flat car with two models is a fantastic deal as it's almost like getting the flat car for free (which is also an amazing model in of itself). The M1 Abrams which Chuck offered to compliment the Oshkosh HET were also used by MTH as a flat car load in an earlier release and a more recent release with the above aforementioned military (DODX) flat cars. I have the M1 from the HET and I also have some of the re-issued M1 Abrams. The re-issued M1 Abrams from MTH are still the same smaller than 1/50 scale and have also dropped some detail on the crew serve weapons mounted on the turret and lack the blue paint highlights along the periscope sights along the hatches. One nice improvement on them is that they feature some aerials which help to improve the profile. Another strike against this flat car release is that the cars only have a total of four axles, while the prototype features six axles to compensate for the 120+ ton weight when transporting two Abrams together. In a hobby rife with people focused on detail it is certainly a faux pas, but even out of scale, seeing several train cars loaded with awesome military hardware is going to draw attention and some fun conversation. I also have the Tamiya 1/48 Abrams, but haven't assembled them yet. That purchase was also to try and abate my OCD for the out of scale M1 Abrams. LOL! Hopefully I'll be able to find some time to get some pics up of the MTH military DODX flat cars, as they are amazing models. Take care and all the best.
