A few more models have come to my attention that could potentially suffer from the dreaded zinc pest / zinc rot.
There was a Conrad Case small backhoe excavator on Ebay a few months ago that was crumbling to bits. I can't remember the type, but it was a more modern recent model (within the last 20 years).
This NZG Kaelble and trailer is being sold as 'dropped', but the trailer is clearly bowed and cracked all over. Another disaster from NZG's more recent Chinese-made production. I was close to buying one of these recently but I'm glad I didn't!

It's unfortunate that it happens but it's sometimes hard to tell until the model sits in a certain environment. I had a Mack Granite tractor of one of the first run First Gear lowboys that the doors fell apart on and I didn't have it only a couple years!! Thankfully I haven't had the issue with any of my other models so far!!

I'm a kid at heart, so I will play with any model construction vehicle from 1:87 scale to 1:1 scale!!!!

Age is a state of time NOT a state of mind!!

So far I have been lucky, I have only experienced zinc rot on one model. I bought a 1/43 scale Anson Chevy 3500 dually model from a seller and when it arrived both the hood and tailgate showed signs of rot. Ive the model for several years now and the cab and bedsides have huge spiderweb of cracks through them.

To be fair 'more recent' is probably a bit elastic as the 6-axle trailer is listed as a 1999 model.

I believe the Conrad Putzmeister telebelt trucks are also known to shown signs of zinc rot. The outrigger housings are known to develop cracks, and there are examples of the main boom breaking off were it mounts to the superstructure. Explains why you will see a lot of these for sale that are broken. Mine has the cracks at the outrigger housings, and I am thinking about selling it off before it gets worse.

I had a Anson 1/43 Chevrolet 3500 Dually that also had zinc pest on the hood as well as one OHS model and several Grip Zechin and Shinsei models too.

The worst example of zinc pest I have seen on a construction model is this 1/20th scale Mitsubishi excavator from an unknown manufactuer
