Scania LBS 141 and Nooteboom trailer
This project was not really planned, it just happened. Although I have been thinking about how to transport the boom of my Liebherr LTM 1800 for years.
In real life all kinds of combinations are being used, but most of them include a 6x4 truck. And I hadn’t succeeded in making a drive axle for a truck in 1/24 till now. So that’s when the project started. In February I thought, let’s try to make a single drive axle! And I got it together. Next challenge was to make a tandem drive unit and that also worked out. Once I was this far I had no choice to build a truck around it. I choose the Scania LBS 141 with its famous V8 engine. This type is from the 70’s and I saw a lot of them back in The Netherlands and they were the most powerful trucks around then.
The truck has 6x4 drive and a 2-speed gearbox, with a slow and a fast setting. The fast speed gets the truck to an equivalent of about 25 mph. The battery in in the cab.
Once the truck was done it became obvious that the trailer should be for the boom of the LTM 1800 and I chose a Dutch trailer, the Nooteboom OVB-102-6, very common appearance for carrying counterweights, etc. This particular one can be extended to accommodate the boom of the LTM 1800.
As you can see the whole thing is not finished yet. Lots of details to sort out and painting to be done.
