1/50 Tonkin Cat 950K Snow Blower. Snow blower is from an Oshkosh model, I cast the quick connect adapter, rear guard, and light bar in metal, the shovel, fire extinguisher, steps, and mirrors are metal. The engine frame is brass, and I cast the auxiliary engine in resin.😃 100_5768 by Ken Wheeler, on Flickr"/> 100_5769 by Ken Wheeler, on Flickr"/> 100_5775 by Ken Wheeler, on Flickr"/> 100_5771 by Ken Wheeler, on Flickr"/> 100_5773 by Ken Wheeler, on Flickr"/> 100_5772 by Ken Wheeler, on Flickr"/> 100_5770 by Ken Wheeler, on Flickr"/> 100_5780 by Ken Wheeler, on Flickr"/> 100_5782 by Ken Wheeler, on Flickr"/>

Great project Ken. Can you tell us a little more about your casting processes? Robert

Thanks Robert. With metal casting, I make a "master" part out of brass, aluminum, or zink. The part is then molded in a round rubber RTV mold, then put into a Spin Casting machine. The mold is spun as hot molten metal (zink or pewter) is poured into the mold.
Resin casting starts with making a master part out of metal, resin, or even wood. Next a mold is made, either one piece or two piece, by making a frame (usually balsa wood or plastic), and mounting the part in the mold. A two part mold material is mixed and put in a vacuum chamber to remove the air bubbles. Then it is slowly poured into the mold. As soon as the mold is full, it is placed in a pressure chamber @60 psi for 24 hours to cure. Greater detail can be obtained using resin over metal, but metal is a lot stronger and more durable.
