Something that Americans don't do very well, at least based on the 10 years I lived there. Europeans tend to get more vacation time from what I can tell. Dutch get 5 weeks, UK get 4 weeks and I think France might even get 6. And these are all standard with a full time job. Civil service get more and with flexi time.

I agree Zach. When I was there I started out with 1 week and then was allowed 2 weeks after 3 years or so, but wasn't allowed to take them Feb thru' July or Oct thru' Nov. Didn't leave a lot of choice. Company I work for now are American but when I started I had more vacation than by boss who had been with the company over 10 years!

Hope you have a fantastic break Paul...and in your travels you find that rare, gorgeous, obscure and absolutely fantastic model that we all seek in our travels.....and display it here on your return..Cool Cool

Re the holidays(annual leave)...I get .....wait for it....9 weeks annually, plus I have 35 weeks accrued Long Service Leave, unlimited sick leave, been at this profession for nearly thirty four years...and still love it with a passion.

Lol Paul...I hear where you are coming from there..Teeth Those wives are wonderful things in themselves and I/we love them dearly but they are absolutely useless in a fight and when hunting for models of our desires...LOL.

Chandler,
The pin lift came from someone at the Modelleshow Europe in 2011. A guy from Germany made them but I don't know if he still does.

Thanks for the info, I'll do some research on that. Regarding vacation in Canada, we're between the US and Europe. I loved the European lifestyle when I was living in Belgium. Smiley

This crane has been out for a good while now but was only available from v.d. Tol directly. I finally got around to buying it a couple of weeks ago, along with the VW Caddy and 10ft container. This now completes the 1050 collection bar the OT version.

There should be more models in this livery I think!

Weather here in the UK is a wet n windy at the moment so I decided to spend some quality time with my models Teeth

Finally got around to fully rigging the Mammoet LTM1350-6.1 and took some photos indoors. Way too windy outside!

Arrival on 'site'

Loading the ballast tray and ballast

Connecting up the ballast tray

Getting the Y guy arms into place

Connecting the Y guy arms

Reeving the hook block

Ready to lift

This is without a doubt a very detailed model and looks amazing, but it is not without it's compromises and/or issues.

1. My Y guy arms are also loose when in transport and drop down significantly. I think I could remedy this and may do so in future. It is not because the model is broken but more because the connections have a lot of play in them.

2. I am not convinced the outriggers would support a lot of weight.

But the positives:

1. It is one of the most detailed crane models to date without being at YCC prices. There is even the correct storage arms for the outrigger pads!

2. Almost everything functions, even down to the Y guy arms being able to be positioned for attachment.

3. I personally think it is reasonably priced, especially after visiting WSI and seeing just how much work and effort is put into these models.

4. I think WSI will learn from this model and improve for the future should they carry on building other crane models.............

Thanks for looking,

Paul R

i thought my Y-guy arms were very loose but thats because i didnt have the little stands folded down, they help support the wings off the deck. but they are still a little fidly even with the stands down. nice photos as always!

The Wm Whyte LTM 1050-3.1 by WSI turned up today. I think it has made it into the top 3 of my favourite LTM 1050-3.1's!

Family portrait

Sadly it has become apparent that I did not quite get the yellow right on my LG, but it will have to do as I am not painting the SOB again!

Also some fun facts as I've been asked a few times:

140 cranes in total including 24 Mammoet cranes.

61 x Conrad.
26 x NZG.
22 x WSI (2-3 more on order).
13 x TWH (2 more on order).
5 x YCC (missed the Sarens LG 1550 which I am kicking myself for).
5 x ZON.
Remainder are odd ones from Norscott and others.

A LTM 1200-5.1 would go well with those Whytes units.

Yes it would and I do have a spare 1200 somewhere. Don't know if I've seen any decent pictures of it though?
