Guy, thanks for bringing back great memories. That Euc dump truck was always my favorite toy as a kid. Wished I still had it. I tried to convince my parents to buy me that GMC Maclean tractor trailer but l never did get it. Oh well! Mike

Modification by Azur Modelisme of a tipper into a timber tractor (Conrad unit with Minitrucks forestry semi-trailer): Attentive observers have noted that rear-view mirrors and width indication poles are missing on the Conrad model, probably damaged by Jean-Paul on a narrow access track leading to the loading site. Another transport performed by one of Jean-Paul's heavy fleet unit. The Berliet TBO 15 M3 HC tractor (built by MiniCams from a Minitrucks kit) is towing a Nicolas STA 45 ex-tank carrier (MVI kit) loaded with a Clark wheeled loader (Conrad) and a Menck scrapedozer(NZG): Regards. Guy

Found some years ago in a local swapmeet at a very reasonable price(*), the 1st model ever produced by A. Smith for Angego, French model company starting in early nineties with the famous British model maker a long series dedicated to WW2 military vehicles: US Army military wrecker Ward LaFrance M1A1 6x6/2 with its Gar Wood lifting equipment(Angego model) Note (*): the seller was asking for a rather low price, until he discussed with the Angego owner, who was selling models at the next table. When I came back to get the wrecker, its price had noticeably increased as the seller had realized his error. After lengthy discussions, he finally accepted to reduce his requirements and I bought it at a "middle" price. Regards. Guy

Jean-Francois had in mind to build a very specific tipping semi-trailer used by Nicoletti years ago. Here below, the model at development stage and the final Marrel unit, fitted with a Telma retarder (additional braking system) on its rear tandem axle. It is towed - as with Nicoletti - by a Berliet TLR 280 tractor: To be continued. Guy

Jean-Francois trailers are stunning.Really well built.The attention to detail,is amazing.I really like seeing the older models,being modified.They look great,when you have finished. Also,in the fifties,that Hanomag unit towing the load,was 'heavy haulage'.Nowadays 150+ tons is not even that heavy.LOL.

For us European, the respect in truck design of the US "Bridge Formula" has sometimes some strange effects on trucks architecture. For example, to carry its McNeilus Bridgemaster M80 cement mixer drum, this Kenworth T880 6x4/2 carrier had to be fitted with an extra axle in front of the driven tandem and - more surprisingly - of another one on a lifting frame at rear, used at full load to spread the weight over a longer distance (First Gear model): Regards. In the US, some States accept "Turnpike Doubles" transport, on dedicated networks. These combinations made of 2 semi-trailers, started in the fifties/sixties with 2 "short" 40' semi-trailers (12.19 metres each) but these days 53' (16.15 metres) long units are common. Two 1980s "Turnpike Doubles" made of 40' semi-trailers, being built from Corgi and Norscot models: - Top picture: Kenworth W925 6x4/2 tractor (modified Corgi model) and 2 Fruehauf-US FB-F2-40/150/96 2-axle box semi-trailers (Norscot models being modified) with a homemade Fruehauf-US 2-axle dolly, - Bottom picture: International Transtar C-OF 4070A 6x4/2 tractor (modified Corgi model) and 2 Fruehauf-US FB-F2-40/150/96 2-axle reefer semi-trailers (Norscot models being modified, vintage cold generation units to be added) + homemade 2-axle Fruehauf-US dolly.
