Two French-made military vehicles, which were very successful, both in France and abroad. More than 4000 of these armored cars were built by Panhard in France, with 1600 produced abroad in addition (named Eland Mk7/Eland 60/90), following sub-contracting agreements with a local South-African company. 2 modified Solido models, a Panhard AML 60-12 4x4/2 (with a mortar - left) and a Panhard AML 90 4x4/2 (equipped with a cannon - right):     Regards. Guy all nice pictures of the collection. The silver Mack under the Talbert lowbed, was that originally a dump truck. I did the same custom with mine, I ended up painting it white also. It is now a redi mix truck in my cement plant diorama.

You're right: the Mack was originally fitted with a Meiller dump body which was removed and the tipper turned into a tractor.

Solido changed completely the military modeling in the sixties, with the fitting of metal tracks on their models. If they are OK for large battle tanks, they appear a little bit oversized for lighter armored vehicles:  After the Panhard AML posted earlier, another successful French military product: the AMX13 light battle tank. Approx. 7700 units were produced, with almost 3000 armored personnel carriers or ambulances VCI/VCT vehicles in addition. The anti-aircraft defense armored vehicle was produced solely for the French Army, at 60 units only.  To be continued. Guy

Guy is the Gulf tractor a Pete or a K Whopper, and who cast that one. The metal tracks look good on the tanks also.

The Gulf tractor is a Freightliner COE for sure, but it looks more "toyish" than the Conrad model we usually see here in Europe: I'll ask Jean-Paul about it and shall come back to you.

The Gulf cabover is in fact a generic Pete. It’s a toy from the 70’s made by Kidco and under a couple other names. I am waist deep right now trying to make something good out of one. The cab casting provides a decent start but the rest is pretty bad, the cab and frame are cast as a single piece. I will attempt to post some pics of my project a little later.

Hi GuyM, thanks so much for sharing your wonderful pics. I remember my Solido Sherman tank fondly. The metal tracks were epic and put my rubber tracked Ertl Cat D10 to shame. Take care and all the best.

Guy and GCK3 thanks for the information on the Gulf tractor. When I first looked at it I thought it was a Freightliner, Then I zoomed in and realized that from the top of the cab it has almost no slant down to bottom of windshield ( which the Petes and Kenworths have)whereas the Freightliner has a slant from top of cab to about middle of grill plus the Freightliner emblem would stick out a little from the cab. It is very hard to tell unless you have one in front of you.

GCK and Steve, I was sure that an American truck enthusiast would know more than I do, from the "other side of the pond". I learned something today: I didn't know that Peterbilt had built that type of cab. Below a picture of a 362 COE tractor from 1982 found on the web after I read your messages:  I always thought that the model Jean-Paul used for its Gulf combination was a Freightliner: thanks for correcting my mistake. ChandlerYohn, Here is one of the French Army Sherman, passed by the US Army onto French Forces after WW2 with its Diamond T/Rogers tank transporter combination:    Diamond T M20-980 6x4/2 ballasted tow truck and Rogers Bros M9 1+2-line tank transport trailer (Corgi models) unloading a Ford Motor Co Sherman M4A3 combat tank (Solido model). Although the metal tracks are/were an obvious improvement.They just don't look right,being that colour.They look like they have come from something else.Surely,Solido could have made them the same colour as the tank they are on?(I'm not calling anyone Shirley)

Guy no mistake, it is very hard to tell the difference especially when the diecast is not as crisp as it should be. Nice shot of that 82 Pete.
Besides Guy the only one who can make a mistake when it comes to cab over Freightliners is, you guessed it Quinellaliner.
