Guy nice pieces to your collection, I got the new Messer MB with Moffat a while back, nice set up but I bought it just for the Moffat which by itself is a very nice piece.

Modification in progress of a 1/55 Siku lowloader: it will become a 1950s 75 tons Rogers Bros/LaCrosse lowboy in a 1/50 scale. The loading of the excavator for delivery from its construction location takes place in the US sometimes in early 70s:    - Mack B 813SX 6x4/2 tractor (211hp, GVW: ?? tonnes, GCW: 125 tonnes): modified Hobby Town model, - Rogers Bros/LaCrosse 3-axle ultra-low bed semi-trailer with 1-axle jeep dolly (GVW: ?? tonnes, payload: 68.03 tonnes): homemade from a Siku base, - Bucyrus-Erie 40H hydraulic excavator (331hp, weight: 55.6 tonnes, capacity: 2.29m3): NZG model. The 1/55 Siku model at the origin of the modification:  I wanted a long time ago to perform that modification: the Siku model being 5.8cm wide, it was easy to modify it into a 10' wide Rogers/LaCrosse lowboy (3.04m or 6.08cm wide in a 1/50 scale). Below, the 3 pictures that were used to perform the upgrade, with from top to bottom: a 1950s Rogers 3-axle lowboy with 1-axle dolly combination, a Gerosa Rogers 2-line lowloader and a LaCrosse 2-line lowboy, with its noticeable side frames (which can be found as well on the Rogers M9 tank transport drawbar trailer):    Regards. Guy your Mack B-81 was made by Don Mills, the name of his store was Hobby Town. His store was about 5 minutes from my first house over 30 years ago. I have about 5 of his models one was the Mack B-81 ten wheel dump (I put the dump body on a Conrad Mack tractor, the scale of the dump body was a correct 1/50 scale. I don’t know where my B-81 is at this point and with this post you are forcing me to go look for it and I really don’t want to) they are great models but not 1/48 scale, they are smaller. All his other Mack’s other than the B-81 are more to scale.
Great looking modifications on all your models in the pictures.

That's the only Mack B81 I have: I got it more than 20 years ago from a seller in France, importing a few Don Mills models at that time. Considering customs duties to be added to its selling price, I remember that it was pretty expensive - for me at least! - at that time but I agree, it is very nicely made: pity that I didn't buy more B81s then!
I just added the "oilfield-looking" protection structure over the winch and changed its 5th wheel to one of my "standard" white metal units.

The blacked out wheels of the Joal trucks are a huge improvement on their otherwise plasticky looks. I just painted the wheels on my only Joal Volvo and it looks so much more better making me wonder why I didn't think of it before. This helps me to now find more of these Joals and turn them into the kind of jewels you have shown on these pages.

Guy if I remember correctly I paid close to if not more than $200.00 over 20 years ago and I had no customs duties, so I can only imagine what you paid. I just wish it was closer to a 1/48 or even 1/50 scale especially for a B-81 because those are heavy duty looking. When I was in college I drove a B-81 ten wheel dump with a quad box, so I was buying one no matter what it cost.

The Rolls-Royce, bought second-hand for approx. 30 British Pounds by the Borough Green (Kent) fire brigade to a local bourgeois, was towing after being modified, a 1-axle Dennis 350/500 Gal. fire pump, which was never modeled by Matchbox:     The Dennis fire pump was made from various bits and pieces from my left-over box, based on a restored real Dennis unit of that period. I have to admit that old models produced when I was young - some of which were particularly detailed and nicely modeled for the period - have some sort of "magic" for me: I really enjoy modifying and upgrading them. Last example, an old Dinky Toys semi-trailer produced in the 60s. - The model, as it was for sale on e... for a few Euros (Dinky Toys Pullmore car transporter in a 1/48 scale):  - The model modified, while it was waiting for a final coat of paint:  Morris FE-Series 3 4x2/2 tractor (modified Corgi model) and Brockhouse Pullmore 2-axle car transport semi-trailer (modified Dinky Toys model) being loaded with 4 Austin FX4 4x2/2 London taxis (modified Lone Star models)   To be continued.
