Sizes listed on the TWH website:
Bucyrus 495 in 1:50 - Length 31" Width 17" Height 21"
P&H 4100XPC in 1:50 - Length 24" Width 12" Height 15.5"
I was surprised at the size difference. Is the 495 that much larger of a machine?

Mark Bridle wrote:Rossco, I have an OHS P & H 4100 XPB, and I've had it a lot of years now. Let me assure you nothing, not even even a TWH 495,( because I have 2 of those), beats Chinese brass. You take a peep at a CCM Lima 2400 face shovel, when you can, and you'll see what I mean. I sold most of my collection 5 years ago and kept just the nice pieces I really liked, quality not quantity. Etched brass construction still gives you the sharpest cleanest detail. At a price though, some people however want lots of cheaper models and thats fine, but if they added up how much they all cost, perhaps its the same as my one expensive one. The lift side must have cost a fortune lately. I do however think that the 4100 XPC will make a wonderfull model. Will they now make the old timer 206 shovel now? Hope so, anyone know? Good comment Rossco, got me thinking.

Hey Mark ... Nice Collection you have I wasnt taking anything away from the OHS piece .. (If I had some spare cash I would have bought one off ADM) Amazing Models .... This Model will be a good base for people who wanna Customize to a specific mine/company without having to shell out ££££ ... The Fording #6 is pretty bland TBH .. Will pop some pics up ..

Hello Rossco, I'd like to see any P & H shovels you have pictures of, as I am bit of a fan of the marque, either here or e mail me at mbm.p@virgin.net I like the cherry and cream XPC put in the US gold mine, not sure which mine it was though. Barrick? Someone will know. I don't think I have the nerve, or eyesight to customize a big shovel. I did convert a Cat 793C to a P & M orange 793B some years ago, but my eyesight had a bit of trouble sometimes. Looked nice in the end, just got to decal it. Regards Mark

As it stands you have copper mines in south america, but it wouldn't take too much to turn into the BMA machine or if feeling more ambitious, Claremont coal or as Rossco says #6 at Elk Valley coal, both red and white but claremont has yellow rather than black handrails. Morenci would also be a big job as they are black and white. For the really ambitious how about the C Boss in Suncor colours?

Great ideas, but this would be much more than a repainting job as the C BOSS machine has many structural differences from the XPC... In the same idea, I'd better imagine an awesome white/blue livery from CNRL'Horizon mine. As of the 4100XPC model, a quite "quick" modification would still be BMA' Peak Downs coal mine (Eastern Australia) : yellow and black 4100XPC with yellow handrails instead of default black ones. Here are some pictures of these tow machines taken on the net : CNRL - Horizon : BMA - Peak Downs :

Well this is certainly a great looking model and one that I hope to add to my collection. I see in the description that it has working LED's so that should be pretty cool!

Thanks for the links, This one is the machine mentioned by RPFolwer working at Rio Tinto' Clermont coal mine (Australia). Copabella mine (McArthur Coal) has a very nice 4100C nicknamed " the general", this is not a XPC model. Here it is : (Picture source : http://ar.macarthurcoal.com.au/ ) (Pictures source : http://www.arte.tv/fr/La-course-aux-matieres-premieres/2408600,CmC=2409106.html )

Superb. You are dead right about the Coppabella machine, The General, this is the latest variant of the 4100"A" (now "C") configuration which has shorter boom, lighter operating weight, smaller bucket size and not the slope to the roof of the house and other changes to the house, counterweight and undercarriage when compared to the XPB / C machines.

I just pre-ordered the model today. So far it looks great, and I love that it includes LED lights. I look forward to displaying it next to the Bucyrus 495HR.

Great looking model. I am on the fence as well regarding the Bucyrus HS495 FD or this model. I have been collecting the $ for the 495 and then TWH comes along and does this to me!! Any suggestions on what to get? For those of you that like a challenge and will end up with both models, how bout a custom fleet in Boliden's Aitik Copper mine livery? If anyone goes down this road, please post pix! Aitik copper mine, SwedenBug ITW Security

Just paid the deposit for one also. My mother used to work for P&H MinePro services and since working for them has not stopped bragging to me about how they are the superior shovel manufacturers and nothing even comes close, hydraulic excavators and shovels suck and theres only one name when it comes to moving dirt etc etc Cut a long story short - we're going halves! Shame it didn't come in Clermont's livery as it would look awesome loading my 960e (which would require minium customisation to replicate Clermont's) as my 485 doesn't do it any justice!
