Agreed, but too late.

I have worked already on my WSI Peterbilt 379 tractor: it is now fitted with a modified Conrad ex-Freightliner FLD112 dumper 2nd axle I found in my spare box (which has the same dimensions than Pete's front axle):



The Joal model already got 3 sets of Diecast Masters ex-XL Specialized booster and stinger dual wheels (saved from other sets) and I plan in addition to modify its rear bed + central well + ramps and to build a new specific gooseneck for it:

Agreed, a 2-axle lowboy should do the job.
Just for info, the Rogers Ultima unit has a lifting 3rd axle: it could therefore have been turned easily into a "2-axle lowboy" with no mods as, to my knowledge, there is no such unit in the 1/50 world.

I haven't seen such a scene myself, long gone these days.
But I remember, being a kid, to meet in South of France a Richier three-wheeler road roller, moving (slowly) and towing its living van to the next working site: the driver/operator was remaining on site for the duration of road repairs, which could take a few days.
For info, that Hamm 8.5 VTD road roller was produced from 1958 to 1980 at approx. 1300 units. Its main characteristics was the ability to "crawl" sideways (we call that "walking like a crab" in France, see first picture above), expanding its basic track of 1m25 by almost 50%.
