I agree with you Randy.I think the the new dump body looks real good.I believe it is a MSD dump body.If you check out the CAT web page you will notice that the performance dump body "waffle" is not offered any more.I think this is the main reason the 793D model has changed.I have the original model and plan on getting the MSD version. RMS Models wrote:Gentlemen, I'm having a very difficult time understanding all the negativity in this post directed at Norscot. When Norscot first introduced the Caterpillar 793D truck, the number one complaint was the "waffle" body. Many participants of this forum requested a "normal" body. Well.......Norscot answered these requests and all I see here are complaints. Randy M. Smolenack RMSmodels@aol.comrandy.m.smolenack@us.army.mil I didnt even know that, havent been on this forum for long at all. Well if that is the case then it is understanable. And I find it really good they listen to us collectors. I will buy this model no question about it, Im a big fan of this type of machinery. This is a rock bed, but on the older D-model what type of bed is that? You call it "waffle" body, I guess it is becasue of the square pattern on the sides. But is it used to transport anything special?

I think the only thing i hope for is that the steer accumulators were repositioned form the original pics, Tim can you advise if this is the case.
Like others have stated on here, there would be complaints if they were hung with a new rope.
A different style tyre might have been enough to get it over the line for some but i am more than happy with a new bed design and poweredge dress.
Cat will have another body out very soon, the "X" body, this will have charecteristics of a couple of previous Cat body designs and is aimed at the contractor and will be the replacement for the dual slope. We will have the first one in Au where i work so will get some pics through when it is installed. With the waffle body aka "performance plus" the idea is it is a lightweight body so as to reduce GVM and increase available tonnes to be carried without going over the GCM or Cats 10/10/20 payload policy.
With the trucks at the moment all models will be getting updated so Cat would most likely be concentrating on that so approval from them through Norscott at the moment would not really be a happening thing i would think. What everyone should be hopeing for is some approval for the new models coming on line because trust me you will be impressed. 785D,789D,793F,793F-AC,795F-AC,797F will be the lineup with quite big sheet metal changes. And as for Norscott getting the most out of a casting who could blame them, in fact i would go so far as to say i wish there would be more of it as Cat has for many years done this with the real lines through some product families so why not the diecast?
And just on issuing a new model using an old casting, if another 793 is commisioned to reflect the F model the only thing they could reuse would be the body and the tires, sheet metal, cab and frame are totally different.
If you cant be satisfied with what Norscott are doing you should give the game away.
