Quote: "I going to buy the new and old ones now."

I am a little confused the old HET is M911, the new HET is M1070, where can one find the M911 in scale?

Sorry about that. I meant the old TWH cargo truck, HEMTT M-985 Cargo.

I think you can find the M-911 on the AFV website for military models but they are expensive.....

*BUMP*

I just received the Desert tan variant. Awesome model!!

Although... I expected it to be larger... I put a WSI Actos 6x4 next to it, and that one is even taller than the M1070 tractor. Although the latter is quite a bit longer. Still, very detailed model, even though a small part at he rear of the trailer was bend, and broke of when I touched it. But as this is only to attach the chains holding the ramps up, it's noting major. Hey, I cold say it's battle damage. Teeth

Now for a nice load. That disappointed me a bit as well. Only 63 metric tons payload capacity. I would have expected it to be a bit more, at least some where in he 80 metric ton range.

Also, do the pendular axles on the trailer steer? They seem to be very tight, and I don't want to break anything.

I wonder how this model would work as a civilian heavy haul combination?

Maybe there is another red and black repaint in Bob's future?

I think I found the perfect load for it. An M1 Abrams made by WarTanks in 1:48th scale. It looks like a good detailed (static) model, and fits with the truck, as it is a 'Journey to Baghdad' based model. Desert camo with a lot of weathering.

4 of them were brought into Australia a few years ago (two on the east coast and two on the west coast) They are having problems getting them registered over here. I think it is because they are a fixed width trailer and are two wide.

Epistte,

I have seen an US ex-tank transporter tractor fitted with a ballast box and repainted in ALE Heavylift livery somewhere on the web: that tow truck was moving a multi-line heavy modular trailer (I suppose somewhere in Middle-East).
Sorry but I can't find the link anymore: may be someone can help ?

I made a couple of photo's today of just the Oshkosh M1070A1 compared to a few WSI trucks.

Front to rear.

Side by side.

Top view.

Up front.

Actros 8x4 & Oshkosh.

I've als found a cool website about the M1070 HET with all kinds of photo's. Various loads, trucks in the US, in Iraq, Afghanistan, trucks that had axidents, are in repair, were shot etc.

Check it out here: http://www.primeportal.net/transports/m1070_home.htm

I have on question though, in the box there's a small tool of some kind, it's made out of plastic and one end is pointed, while he other somewhat spoonshaped. Anyone knows what this is for?

thanks Remko, that is one tasty tasty model indeed, one I passed on and I'm sorry I did

I thought it would be a shade bigger, maybe its the small windows that give that imppression, still a belter of a model!! Teeth Teeth

Why is "phonetically" spelt with a "ph"?

... It's better to be silent and thought a fool, then to speak up and remove all doubt

The complex of Newgrange was originally built between c. 3100 and 2900 BC,[2] meaning that it's aproximately 5,000 years old. According to Carbon-14 dates,[3] it is more than 500 years older than the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt, and predates Stonehenge by about 1,000 years.

Check a page back, I think someone here has one for sale Wink

About the size, I think It's a bit " Damned if you do, damned if you don't!"

You'd like big windows on a truck for optimum view on the road. But in a combat situation big windows mean big targets. It's basically if you can see the enemy, he can see you as well! So military vehicles tend to have smaller windows.

Just a couple of days and my Abrams will be here. Can't wait! It also features military figures, so a mini-diorama of the crew loading up the MBT can easily be made. I hope the tank has a few tie down points so the winches can be used as well.

Nice looking model though I thought it would have been bigger than an Actros .

Make sure you chain your tank on there have been several cases of Challengers falling of the trailer over here. Whistle

There was a report in a magazine over here about the outfits and it said the trailers were to complicated for hard use in the desert and they were giving a lot of trouble.

They have so many axles to comply with European bridge weights.

And the fact that the various road authoroies cant get their heads around the fact that the prime movers have super single tyres all round along with the width thing. The 8x8 Faun in Sydney is a little over width and has super singles all round so the roads people speed limited it to 20 kph unless it is attached to a trailer and then it could travel at convoy speed.

It sounds similar (if not exactly the same as) to the tool that came with my Valmet tracked harvester. I beleive it is to aide you in openning doors, hatches, etc. I could be wrong though.

Snazzy lookin model though, I was working on a base a couple years ago and they were testing a portable bridge near our porject by running one of these trucks with an Abrams on it over the bridge time and time again... till the bridge almost gave way. Then they stopped and regrouped.

regards,
Jim

TWH call it there “Hook Tool”. Jims right, it’s used to open up all the doors, hatches etc. Most TWH models have one included.
