In The Netherlands it's not strange to see large knuckle boom cranes in the cicil sector such as pre-cast industry as well as lifting large glass panels into place. And they're common in heavy machinery removals in confined spaces, as Remko answers.
According to your comments about a lifting certificate, so far as I know (I speak for the time I started with my career as crane operator) in The Netherlands there is no certificate neccessary when the knuckle boom is used JUST for loading and unloading your own truck.
Will it also be used for handling heavy parts or (dis)assembling work you need a special certificate for knuckle boom cranes.
Regards Randy

These cranes are mainly intended for moving heavy machinery in confined spaces where a normal crane can't operate. Not really ..Carry decks, spider cranes are most common in the industrial house..fork trucks with boom attachments ,gantries and dollies..all industrial ..the foot print of that unit and its ceiling of usable boom doesn't make it to useful for heavy gear in a plant or otherwise unless its outside on the ground or clear line off sight .... these units are used allot in the concrete and forming arena, residential housing ,pre-fabed walls and roof truss, the odd air unit and roofing material ..they have their place ...but industrial applications would have this machine at a disadvantage .. The biggest selling factor is that pound for pound you dont really need a hoisting ticket to run it ..you do need a proper certificate... but not entirely like the one i hold ..because theres no hoist line and winch ..it falls into "similar hoisting equipment".. and its right ..theres no real difference between this and a concrete pump boom operation wise ..you can take just about any truck driver..have him factory/dealer trained to run it ..and you got an operator for it .. Lieb errr i mean lotsa I have seen alot of large knuckles with winches. and as far as being the same as a concrete pumper not really, yeah they are ran by remote but thats about it. We have a Hiab 600-6 and other than being one of the only Hiabs without a reverse knuckle it is extremly versitile. And a little more training than from the dealer is required depends on the province my man ..My brother got his in an afternoon ..for a 70-80 foot dry wall truck ....I spent another afternoon going over limits of approach and gradients, dunnage and the use of,SWL of shackles, slings and how to inspect them ..and the programmed my company cell in his phone ..just in case .. I'll say this for my brother ..He listened ..a new guy took his old truck(same course) and electrocuted his ground-man a few weeks later .... I wouldnt kid about that .. My man? lol Your not telling me that running a drywall truck is the same as running a knuckle boom out in the field. Iam not knocking drywall trucks but come on. How many drywall trucks place large B.O.Ps under a drilling rig floor or load and unload gas seperators or compressors, I could go on and on, but alas trying to explain to u the advantages of a knuckleboom is like talking to a wall.

It was all meant in fun, not to offend, and I'm sorry you took it that way. I do however think you are blowing things way out of proportion. Just remember some of the comments you made to people when you called yourself Liebherr1160.
