So a bit of trivia (Cosmosman is obviously out of this round). Can any of you "official" Ainscough spotters remember the date the Ainscough "Millennium Lifter" was officially introduced to the public? Do any of you still have the official invitation?

Was this the same crane that was used for clearing the Grayrigg derailment a few years ago??
I think there could have been a AC 2000 there too.

Excellent pics Gaz. The only thing I can say about your looks is you must have been fighting to contain a huge grin while sitting in that crane. I'd be beside myself. TFS

Edit: This crane looks crane on the Liebherr calendar. A touch of worn paint is like gray hair. You've earned it.

Great pics Gaz, thanks for posting! I think she looks good as is, the rust gives it a bit of extra character lol! Smile

So how does operating this compare to your new 1150 with all the modern technology that has been added to them over the years?

ah that 11000 is a bit too big Gaz,right? a 1500 would be perfect Wink Cool

Why is "phonetically" spelt with a "ph"?

... It's better to be silent and thought a fool, then to speak up and remove all doubt

The complex of Newgrange was originally built between c. 3100 and 2900 BC,[2] meaning that it's aproximately 5,000 years old. According to Carbon-14 dates,[3] it is more than 500 years older than the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt, and predates Stonehenge by about 1,000 years.

Nobody else? In 19 days it will be the 12th anniversary of her official arrival.

Inside the front cover it reads: "Welcome to the first official Cranespotters handbook where you can keep an accurate record of all the Ainscough cranes you have seen.

We will be awarding a prize to all Cranespotter club members who spot all all the cranes from any one depot and there is a grand prize of $1,000 (pounds) to the first person to spot every crane in the fleet.

We hope you have hours of fun on your travels spotting Aincough cranes - Spot On!

Best wishes

Martin, James & Brendan Ainscough"

Can you imagine if a company would take the time to do something like this today! The handbook also came with a great pin, I would show it but I have it inside a framed photo in my model room. The handbook is 22 pages long and lists the (then) equipment fleets for all the (then) depots. You could also order models and apparel through the club. in 1997 I was the first North American member and 3 years later I was still the only. Was anyone else a member of the Ainscough Crane Spotter Club?

Now that is both cool and nerdy at the same time! But what I would give for Ainscough to do something like this again Teeth Perhaps they could rejuvenate the idea for when the AC1000/9 arrives?? Gaz for club president Wink

I have to say I never knew this existed and thanks a lot for sharing it. My interest in heavy lifting did really start until about 1999 so I would not have knew anything about this at the time.

Every crane in the fleet would be a tough one but I reckon i could win spotting every crane in Beckton Depot Teeth.

Not sure exactly how many cranes we have but I remember seeing somewhere its somewhere in the range of 44'000 tonnes capacity. That will be good i reckon for somewhere in the range of 800 - 900 cranes!!!!!

Yes there is mate, the guys who are de-rigging it tonight are not the ones who have been driving it all week. They are on standdown ready to rig the crane in Maidenhead tomorrow morning. The crew on tonight are the TC2800 drivers as thats stood at the moment.

thought there would be, it seemed too much for just one group of people to run it all the time, and does doing that get more lifting time out of the crane??
