Slowly getting stuff done sitting at home after surgery. I try to stay busy but the constant pain slows me down. I have the bucket started, going with tiger teeth for a dramatic look. The model will have a another bucket for the actual display bucket which is being provided by a big name attachment manufacturer. I had my daughter hold the model so you can really get a feel for the size of it Here is a close up o started doing the slew motors Heres the teeth before carving them out. I glued 6 layers let it set overnight to fully cure before cutting into them NIkl Scale Models

Ok well heres an update for the ones who have not seen on Facebook or instagram. Wish I had more done but been super busy at work and home stuff First the paint is all airbrushed not a true dead on paint match but close enough, this who model will be quarry weathered anyways. Everything on this has been hand built except a few components, cylinder housings, tracks are 3d printed. The handrails are made of brass, walkway is all hand drilled to replicate the wsi model photoetched walkways. I have til June to complete but theres still alot to do. This will be up for sale sfter the competition in June , wont go cheap though What do you guys think of it so far? Jason NIkl Scale Models

Hi Jason, it's coming together brilliantly! :D The walkway mesh is a really nice touch and really adds to the detail. Congrats on the progress so far.

God grieve, that thing is awesome. That picture with your (daughter?) give a good idea of it's size.
Just the drilling project for the walkways alone shows about your motivation for the making of the project.
I wish for you that it sells for at least one grand. The time spent alone would justify it. It will be a rare collector piece.
Congratulations,
Stephane

That is amazing! Your attention to detail and skill to make it is impeccable! I can only wish to be able to buy it but I can assume it will be in the four figure price range and rightfully so!
Will there be any engine details added? I'm sure your going to go pretty far with detail.

You have developed a masterpiece and in so doing, you have delighted Kyle Spritzer's heart to the breaking point. Terrific job. I only wish I could do something to that extent. This is why this hobby is so wonderful. And sharing the process along the way makes it even better. My hat is off to you. CAW

Outstanding work Jason. You do phenomenal work as I have told you on FaceBook. This model definitely has a place in my heart as the Hitachi ZX870 is one of my favorite machines!

Everything has been said, but when it looks almost better that the real deal, you can tell this is great work. Even the weathering with torn safety stickers and adequately placed scratches are perfect. Well done. Can't be done any better. I am assuming the greasy stick and rusty/worn bucket are the next step. Thanks guys for all the kind words, here are 2 more pics of the weathering continued. Sadly once the walkway is placed over the slew ring and hydraulic controls they will be hard to see, but here is a good shot of then before that happens Here is a shot at the greasy main boom cylinders I am waiting on product to rust up the tracks Jason NIkl Scale Models
