Why did Liebherr make the LTM 1800 with a telescopic boom but no hydraulic lift ram(s) like the LTM 11200 (instead using the A frame to hoist the boom), and add the derrick boom for heavy lift? Is it because it started out as a LG 1550? It seem to be a design in transition. I've did some Googling but I wasn't able to find anything in the way that talked about the design/development history of this model. It's so different from all the other designs, weird but unique enough to elagent.

i really like it, if i could collect all the LTM 1800s i probably would, i have the Grohmann without any luffer or derrick (though i would love to have both) and i would kill for a Sarens version
the Thomen version looks great, they have a nice looking livery, although when dirty can look tired and worn out, but this model does look incredible

It's so different from all the other designs, weird but unique enough to elagent. The A frame and superlift of the LTM 1800 increase the lifting capacities of the crane with longer boom lengths and radii. For example: The LTM 1800 with superlift and 56m of boom @ 50m radius can lift 60t. The larger LTM 11200-9.1 with superlift and a comparable 53m boom @ 50m radius can only lift 35t. At a close radius, the LTM 11200 is the stronger crane, but with longer radii, the LTM 1800 is the stronger crane. It all depends on the what job the crane has to do. As well from my understanding the carriers are identical between the LTM 1800 and the LG 1550. This means both booms could be purchased for the same crane, meaning for longer boom lengths and greater loads, the lattice boom could be used. For smaller loads and faster rig up times, the telescopic boom can be used. This is a huge advantage. It's like purchasing two cranes in one. But this could not be achieved if the crane was using standard boom cylinders like the ones on the LTM 11200-9.1.

I found this on the Hansebube forum: Photos: SteffenI have always wanted the Nolte LG1550 so this might have to be a compromise and hope the LG boom is sold at a later date. Paul R

Some more pics: It appears that in the future it will also have lattice boom options, including the SLK! Paul R

That raises hopes for a lattice boom for the Thömen crane Although the ultimate for the Thömen crane would be a "history version", exactly as it was delivered in 1992 with the old style carrier and the first built heavy lattice boom. I would certainly buy that version and even display them both next to eachother even though it's impossible time-wise ( Ignoring what Doc said in Back to the Future: "don't run into yourself!" )

Rob, It should be shipping next month is what I was told by YCC. The model as it stands now is fictional but adding the lattice booms would make it like the 1:1 was before it was sold.
Also there will jib, Derrick lattice boom options in the future but I don't know when.

Apparently not much change from €1000. At this minute that's just shy of $1500AU. That's ridiculous.
