Thanks Craig and Chris Anthony, I agree that they do look very similar from some angles, I was lucky to stumble across that similar trailer shot. I can't wait to see what the 365 and 385 replacements look like. These and the large mining shovels are going to be awesome additions to their lineup. Rowan. 1:25th scale CAT 375L excavator

There are 374 pics over on one of the german forums i think, the gent was smart enough to take a pic of the serial number plate and the model designation was on there so no conjecture with that one!!
It too had no decals on it indicating what it will be.
I think you will find the new 5000 series machines will bear the last 3 digits reflecting there operating weight in the same manner as the smaller brethren. Now they will be CCM 1/48 diecasts worth waiting for!!!

Gavin, what you´re talking about has to be the 374D which was shown on Bauma this year. The specalog can be downloaded here: 374D pdfAs this D-series machine was presented just a fiew months back, I don´t see an update to the E-series coming soon. The new 385 is probably a totally different story.

There are only a handful of E series machine sizes running around right now. I would not hold your breath for the 385 (3XXYz/zz), the 349El is currently the top end of the soon to be announced E series HEX range. - Chris

374 & 390 will be the top of the range upgraded models and they will be D machines.

The 374D L literature is now on Cat's US web site. This is the machine that was at Bauma. It has more HP, low 400s to upper, and scales out at about 5 US tons more than a 365C L. Would expect to see that HP show up in break out force etc.
The interim tier IV emissions requirements in 2011 will require updates to everything utilizing the current Cat engines. Hence you are seeing the big "Cs" become "Ds" and those smaller machines ithat were "Ds" become "Es." To confuse us, we have the new model numbering as well. Hence machines such as the 336D L will have very low production numbers over their production life due to the current international economy.
Much of this thread surround the machine between the confirmed forthcoming 336E L and the internationally available 374D L. This will be the replacement for the current 345D L.

The 374Dl has an 18% engine power increase over the 365Cl, increased digging forces (+9% with mass excavation, +24% with long reach front), 6.5% drawbar pull increase and the counterweight and track gauge have increased for better machine stability. The final 365Cl shipments will occur by the end of November 2010 but very limited 374Dl factory shipments will be made around September 2010. Full production is scheduled for November 2010. Keep you eyes open! - Chris Don't know what made me think of this, but what ever happened to JD544?

Wonder if the twin steps are going to be the norm on both standard and variable undercarriages or if they are no longer having 3 carry rollers on the variable gauge track frames.

I believe that it is a 336E and with the double steps that is just an option. If you compare all the pics it is the same machine. I don't think the bottom on that machine is big enough to be anything larger than a 336E. IMO

Yep, just as I thought...its really a 206. But seriously, that would look great on the model shelf! I can't wait to see shots of the rest of the E Series line. - Chris
