It looks like a truck building winter ahead for me as this is still another order I have on the list to finish before spring. I always wanted to build one of these so it will be another fun project. It will be in the larger 1/12th scale.

This Dart truck was one like the ones used around the Silver Spade . It will be around the same scale as the Spade, so it would look good displayed next to the dipper.
As far as the guys pants, I got a pair just like them , LOL just kidding
Yes. it looks like it is going to be a truck building winter to keep me busy in between plowing snow .

Next week I will begin scaling up the Dart truck project on paper around 1/12th scale. I will enlarge it to the tire dia. size and that determines the scale of the model. Matching the right looking dia. tires is really important to make it look right, even though many times I cannot match the look of the tread patterns or the exact width of the tires. I still have over 500 tires and rims, but very few truck and off road construction type tires. Most of them are farm toy style tires and rims. Toy companies do not want people like me making toys , so they are very strict about selling tires to anyone.
I tried to buy some used loader tires off a Cat RC Loader , and I was told the company does sell new replacement tires for them, only if they send the old ones back. And they absolutely won't send any extra tires even if you own one of those $8,000.00 RC Cat Loaders. So tires are my biggest obsticle and when I look into building the Euclid lowboy that will use over 30 tires and rims, it makes me really have to think about it. As I may never find anymore tires again. I have searched for off road tires for 13 years and only found about 150 . And they are slowly dwindling down. The Dart truck project would use only 10 tires and rims. Ten tires and rims I can handle, ha,ha.

I got all the info around to start the first design of the 1/12th scale Dart Tractor-Trailer Coal Hauler . I should get the first parts cut out for the cab later this week.

oh that is a really nice truck.

Seems that Dart built some pretty big machines. How big was their largest truck?

Dart made a straight frame tandem drive 75 ton truck known as the 75-TA . At that time it took the title of the worlds biggest in 1951. I would really like to build a cool detailed model of that one too.
Then they built a newer straight frame version later that could carry 85 tons. Up to 150 tons with the tractor/trailer styles. In their day, that was a lot of material to move at one time.

FIRST STEP- Here is a picture I took today in my workshop of the scaled up 5 foot long Dart Coal Hauler Truck Model plans. I will start cutting out the parts for the tractor possibly tomorrow.
TULSA - Today I will paint the cab interior , apply the dash guages , and attach the windows. I will also mount the tires on the rims and get them attached to the truck . If all goes well it could be completely done tomorrow and I will post finished pics of it .

This picture shows the very first step of building the Dart Coal Hauler. You can see me drilling out the rim centers so the 3/8" axles will fit through .

Thanks you guys,
I worked on the tractor frame and got the rear duels mounted. I am now working on the front steering axle and hope to get the front frame on wheels by tonight.

I got to tell you Don, it sounds like you don't waste any time working on your models, because it sure doesn't take you that long to build them Teeth

It's hard to believe I still get very excited everytime I start a new project after 13 years. When you love what you do, it doesn't seem like work at all. So every spare minute I get, I am off to the shop . This morning I am bending up the front fenders and sould get them welded and attached to the frame by tonight . I'll post the next picture with the fenders later.
