All right guys I am real sorry about the last post! I thought it was kind of funny though! So here are the rest of the pictures of the yard. We were asked not to photograph inside the plant, but I wish we could have because it was soooooooo cooooooooool!!. We were also asked not to take close ups of the 31000 itself, distance shots were okay. So here we go:

Just a couple of spare motors laying around-Cummins engines

A couple of shots of an 18000 in white:

One of my favorite Mani's, the 2250:

A fairly decent sized hook block, the 22 part unit for the 31000, and yea that is Dewoc sitting on the hook!

Okay and here are some shots of the big girl herself, the 31000. I had a chance to eavesdrop of some conversations between some design engineers, potential customers and the actual customer of this unit, Crane Rental.

Even though you cannot see or hear it in this picture, the owner of this crane, is driving it back and forth, while Manitowoc looks on!

A short boom section with our model, Dewoc, for size perspective:

Here we have a representative from Crane Rental talking with us on heavy lifting sitting on the but mast.

And once again forum friend Dewoc standing inside the head piece

I am not sure if these show up or not, but here are examples of the types of welds used on these sections, triple and beyond layers and rings at every joint, pretty cool:

Another of the cranes on display in Dawes livery:

These were far away, but we were told they were the yard cranes:

One of our forum friends Chris (whose wife Jen came along and was great even though she may not have been into it) thought to take a souviner, a rock from the testing yard!

Now at the end of the day we drove around back and peered through the fence to see what we could see, and I started to smell something familiar, the scent of a pachyderm. And low and behold there lurked a Mammoth!!!!!!!!!!! (a 16000)

The photo was taken from behind the fence, just above it! Proof is here!

What a great day! Thanks a million to TWH and Manitowoc for a fun day seeing some real 1:1 models!

Great pics Bob,loved the close ups of the welds!!shame they wouldn't allow photos of inside be taken

still, looked like a great day and that little 31000 looks a nice crane!!

Why is "phonetically" spelt with a "ph"?

... It's better to be silent and thought a fool, then to speak up and remove all doubt

The complex of Newgrange was originally built between c. 3100 and 2900 BC,[2] meaning that it's aproximately 5,000 years old. According to Carbon-14 dates,[3] it is more than 500 years older than the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt, and predates Stonehenge by about 1,000 years.

Looks like you all had a great day! It is very hard to realize the true SIZE of a 31000, or anything else that big, you all were fortuate to she her in the flesh.

I love your living room chair too.

BOB! You are lucky I am too tired to respond properly to that photo! We just walked in the door (11:28pm cst). I drove 1,120 miles and took a total of 952 photos in the last 2 days, I think after I go through them I might have an incriminating photo or 2 from this weekend of you too! But if you all have never done it, you have not lived untill you have taken a tour of a crane factory with Bob and knowing that somewhere inside there's a Mammoet crane or 2! It's a white knuckle ride! Teeth

True, but she's definitely a keeper. We stopped at a couple of wineries and had a nice dinner in Green Bay before the trek home (she needed a break from the boy stuff and I wanted to live).

For reference, I am 6' 1".

And whoa, slow down with the wife thing...not just quite yet my friend. Anxious

But what a weekend. It was wonderful to see you again and really fantastic to meet so many of the other forum members finally! What a weekend!

I'll be back...after some sleep.

Thank you all for a fantastic thread and pictures Applause.

You have really given us an insight into the Manitowoc 31000 and although the 4 track design is taking me a little getting used to it is an immense beast of a crane. The hook block is insane!.

Thanks again!,

Great pics, that 31000 is a beast!

Are there any plans to make a model of it?

Noel.

Great stuff, what will the 31000 look like fully rigged?!
Must be HUGE.
Amazing hook block, and I had to smile at the small rope holding it upSmile
In fact what is it attached to?

Just found this of an engineering sample for a model:
http://www.collectiblereviews.net/TWH_SPECIFICATIONS_SHEETS/manitowoc/Manitowoc31000ConExpoPhotos/index.htm
Only other details I could find suggested it was possibly for marketing the 1:1 and no definate plans for a production model.

Chris-I have to say I was very eager to see something in red and black and it was awesome to see Mammoet's 21000 being built in the production assembly area. I knew when I spied through all the masts of steel in the boom section area what it was! Smelled like pachyderm to me. You sure put the miles on and I am glad you took the time to have some Jen time. A real keeper for sure as I never once heard her complain.

No mention was made of a model for this crane, although I know if sure wishing power were enough it would happen! The only models on display that I wanted to pick up at the TWH store they would not let me have-of course they have not been released yet either-the two Wiesbauer and the military transporter.

So once again thank you Manitowoc and TWH for getting us in!

Im a little late posting on these due to work so my appologies..

I have to say i really wasn't expecting the 31000 to be just THAT big, i knew she was gonna be a big girl, but i had no idea that she would be so gigantic, the photos of her all boomed up with max counter weight on is going to be simply breath taking, infact, untill i actually see a photo of her all done and ready to earn some money i really dont think i will be able to comprehend the size!
I keep putting 2 windows side by side one window with a photo of the model, and the other with a photo of the big girl in the flesh and im just flabbergapsted! My gapst is flabbered! hehe!

Bob, great photos, i love them and im glad you all had a fantastic time, i wish that i was able to come, however in the summer months cricket takes priority...

The block weights over 100,000lbs it'll take 22 parts from 2inch thick wirerope. Capacity is around 2,500tons.
