Sweet and I agree with Zach that flat cab unit is one real mean looking truck. Wonder what it would look like in red and black............(why do I always do that?)

I saw that unipower rig with the front section of a trailer in Cardiff once, it was parked in the middle of a roundabout so I couldn't get a pic. Amazing pics.

Jack the Unipower wass British designed and built...unlike these Fauns! A real shame the contract for UK tank transporters was awarded to Oshkosh.

Jazzdrummer27,

It is my understanding that Unipower was purchased by Oshkosh and the old Unipower workforce is still building the UK tank transporters, just under a different name/umbrella.

Sadley Unipower are no more . Oshkosh have a place down in South Wales we used to deliver to the factory next door ,but as far as I know its nothing to do with Unipower .they where building trucks in the West Midlands in Tipton as we used to go to the company next door eveyday they did not build many quite a few had Volvo F cabs .

I once photographed a 6x6 tank transporter tractor that was parked at Barton this dissapead sometime ago . did it become the 8x8 .

Where in Tipton David? My dad work in British steel/corus for at least 25 years. Just wondering were abouts the factory was.

Wasnt the Unipowe thats with ALE now, built by Alstom?

Sort of. It was found in a factory in Telford minus its transmission. Alstom got hold of it, added new transmission, built the ballast box and so on.

I'm glad I got to see it in red white blue and grey colours before ALE got their paws on Alstom.

The Unipower stuff was next to John Cottons I cant remember the name of the estate .

There was a place near to Baylis transport that did army trucks at one time they where doing lots of bridge layers i may be wrong but I think these where also Unipowers .
