This thing is super big. 400+ ft of boom wow. Is that he 18000 right next to it. Looks small.

INCREDIBLE! i wonder why the tips of each boom are painted with those white stripes like that? i have to go see this thing, its just a beast..... this is one crane we NEED a model of!!!

This crane is sick! But I have a question. I thought you were not allowed to paint any running cable. Look at the cable on the gantry for the back mast. looks like when they painted the gantry that they had already reeved the cable....kinda weird....look at pictures after its boomed up and you will notice it there as well... https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/574981_10151149085279039_1533058643_n.jpgAlso did anyone else notice the attachment on the end of the zoom boom there using around the crane? that cable on the gantry is rope i think, could be wrong, but it stays reeved like that for transport, then just hook up your cable to the rope, and run it through while pulling the rope with aux winch.

The only time that I know of that u can paint cable with paint is if your not using A2B and you come down 6 ft from the becket and paint a foot of the cable so the operator and ground crew can keep a eye on it from 2 blocking. I also paint my bad spots in my cable so I can keep up with them, where they are, and if new ones appear.... Justin

A little birdie tells me they had an "incident" withe the 13000. Boomed it down on to the boom of a manitowoc.

Justin I agree with your statment,however...some engineer thats smarter and better educated that the guy's doing the work know better.. Personally ,,I would be soaking the wire down with a light oil ,the paint will fall off ..and the cable stays lubricated. with paint water cant egress out from the core ..it hangs there behind the paint and rots the cable

Red and white striping or orange and white striping is also commonly used as an aircraft warning in conjunction with red strobe lighting to enhance visibility of the boom. So there is a secondary use besides that of operator visibility. This modification to manufacturer colors tends to be more common on large and longer reach cranes.
