I was having a chat with Eric a couple months ago about making a demo excavator out of the liebherr 1280. So I looked at some pics of the Kobelco 3500 and thought I can design a machine like this. So I had my lr1280 in pieces so I started building. I am calling this machine the R300d I started with the house I am adding most of the details as I build Note on last I will be adding another radiator to the machine Here is a above picture of the 300 ton vs my 50 ton NIkl Scale Models

Next came the a frames for the boom set up. This will have modular set up for easier transport. Here is the adapter for the main boom. In this picture you can see how the adapter will set on the machine. You can also see the main plumbing for the boom and a few of the walkways. I added a guy to show the size of the machine NIkl Scale Models

Here is how the main boom will look being transported Here is the main boom. I made the cylinders out of aluminium rod, the ends are flared for hold resistance which works great You can see in this picture I have added a cab. The cab is a oversized cab design for added comfort for operator, it tilts 30 degrees and is fully armored. I will be redoing the front bars making them smaller NIkl Scale Models

Brandon I have a laser cutter which does not cut styrene. So on alot of the boom pieces you will see I design the piece on CAD and then cut a master template out of plexi and then I clamp to styrene and cut out. All of the body paneling are all cut free handed or with ruler for straight edge. So thanks for saying they looked cnc'd Here is the machine next to the Hitachi 870 Next will be the short boom set up. I am doing a short set up first and then I will do a long boom set up Here is the middle section, everything will have a double ram set up NIkl Scale Models

With the boom done I moved onto the counterweight setup The set will be a 85 ton set up that will consist of a 8 piece system Each piece is designef and then cut out of plexi . The system consists of a base plate that the stones will mount on. Then it will be placed into the weight box on the rear. After all the weights are on the top plate is added I started adding a few catwalks NIkl Scale Models

Well you can not have a demo excavator without a demo attachment So I made a huge cruncher Here is another pic of the counterweights broken down NIkl Scale Models

Jason, I am for the bigger equipment and you have made a real monster piece of equipment. Like it !

Jason. THAT'S NICE!!!!!!!!!! Excellent scratch building!! I have a couple of questions: Where did you find the walkway material? How are you making the hinge and latch details on the side panels? TM

I was watching this over an Hansebubeforum and I have to say I am beyond impressed. The craftsmanship is astounding, but the design blows me away. It seems really clear you though this out and it pays off. The cylinders are fantastic for scratch made.
