The New 800 plus metric ton R-9800 emerges from the Liebherr plant. I beleve this is now the worlds largest land based backhoe. It is headed for Australia by most accounts.

that thing is huge great pics, I see 1 exhaust stack does this run off of 1 engine? Jason

Jason If you have seen a side view, there are two stacks that are in line. The view we see here puts the second stack behind the first.

whats the size comparison to the: 996 and EX 8000? maybe someone can post pics of the 996 next to a 8000, and in the future the 9800.

Kind of hard to really imagine the size of this thing. Any idea how many are expected to be built?

EX8000 is what i consider a size class up from the 996, 996 is usually a 33m bucket and around 660 tonne,typically shovels have slightly less capacity than backhoes when it comes to bucket sizing and the EX8000 is a 40m 800 tonne class machine and the 9800 will be in this area also,45m bucket i have heard on the backhoe so it has pipped the PC8000 backhoes down in Colombia which are around 42m, all bloody big either way

3 things to say:
1. f##king great machine. long time oon the drawing board, finally in the flesh. Liebherr France did it again. they just bought half of the land of the Colmar airport to turn it into a excavator factory, since on the old place all space is taken. they keep the other half of the airport as is, since sometimes they like to ship machines and parts directly from there. we talk big business here, not just a small patch of land
2. look forward to see this baby on bauma 2010
3. don´t let us wait with a model iin the quality and detail level as the R9350 from NZG too long. knowing Liebherr as they are, this will be a must have.

If a model was made would we have to wait until Bauma 2010 before it is released and/or do you think that Liebherr will be working on a commissioned model now?.

What a beast! Can't wait to see some pics of it in action!  So this is the largest backhoe. Is there an option for a shovel configuration or is the 9800 only available in backhoe config? Btw, I'm pretty sure I know the answer is no to this, but is the RH400 available in shovel config?

the cw is a 996 rear.
the RH400 is of course available in shovel configuration, actually all sold were shovels, no backhoe out in the field
and yes the R9800, as alll other Liebherr will also be available in shovel version
