Thanks guys this has been a awesome project to undertake. Everything has been thought out and I am still designing and redesign parts for it. For example the cab arm is to short, will not allow full folding for transport mode. Another will be a new design of the radiator and I will be adding another one aswell. I am designing the long boom for it now. It will have 2 short boom sections and then will have long stick attachment. Pretty similar to the 3500d long boom design, but I am design them as I go. I am planning on making one and casting it to cut down on the overall weight. For being plastic the booms are solid and not hollow for added strength and weigh quite a bit. As for this weight the cylinders of the main boom had to be designed and redesigned a couple of times to deal with the weight for the short set up and the not built yet long boom set up. The cylinder housings are constructed out of butyrate plastic which has a nice soft plastic feel to it. This softer plastic allows me to take the aluminium rod for the cylinder ram and expand the bottom for the added friction needed to hold the heavy boom. If you have ever taken apart a norscot cylinder or any other manufactures cyclinder like this they use the same method for friction. I will be adding some pictures of the railing set up for the machine. I added full railings to the entire machine, can never be to safe, do not want anyone falling off the big beast The railings were done out of 1mm rod. Once the model is complete I will probably go back and redo them out of brass Quote:Where did you find the walkway material? How are you making the hinge and latch details on the side panels? TM
The aluminium for the catwalks comes from a place in Holland great stuff, I will have to find the package to find the name of it. As for the paneling and hinge detail it is all hand cut out of .20 styrene hinges are just small square pieces, but from a short distance you can not tell and they look good. Handles are plastic channel cut thin to resemble handles. Now you know my secrets do not tell anyone I thank you all for the kind words on this build I enjoy hearing them and I like to know I enspire others out there to build. I will be posting my 50ton demo build once I get the pics all uploaded Jason NIkl Scale Models

Incredible work on that beast Jason! You are truly talented, just a thought, but have you considered a large shear for the short boom set up as well?

This would be pretty close to being the largest. It will not be the tallest though. Jeff is the only one here to have seen this in person he is right about it looks even better in person Here you can see the railings are started. These are adding some nice detail to the machine. Will you make a high reach arm for it? If so how high are you going to make it?

Ok so I tore apart the machine this weekend and redid the cooling system. I have redesigned the radiator grills which I think looks a lot better and added another radiator for additional cooling Next I am working on the long boom set up. I do not have an overall height So we will see what we come out with NIkl Scale Models

Once Again, Excellent job. I can't wait to see the high reach boom.
Sorry if you have already answered this, but have you decided on a color scheme?
