I have to post again here, that is truly one of the most "if not the most" amazing model work I have ever seen anywhere. Sir, you are truly gifted to be able to build such an incredible work of art. I can not imagine the talent and knowledge that would take, and even more patience!! That model should be declared a a national treasure!!

Yea I think tim hits the nail right on the head. That is such an incredibly detailed model. I really like it. You dont see custom scratch builds too often in this hobby. This thing is a work of art.

A very 'Eggzellent'.... <a href="http://imageshack.us">[img]http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/9008/burnswe8.jpg" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" /> .....and huge piece of work. My hat's off to you, as this is very great. I feel I know more about what a large TBM looks like because of your scale model. It certainly helps to have a 1/1 scale machine around to use for references! Regards Chris

Hello Mike Sorry, but my english is not the best but I hope you understand what I mean : The following 2 pics shows the cutterhead and the cutters ( disks )from the original-lötschberg-TBM. The rotating cutterhead presses the disks against the tunnel face applying high pressure ( ca. 27 tons / disk ). The disks perform rolling movements on the tunnel face causing the loosening of the rock. The excavated rock, usually described as chips, is picked up by buckets ( red openings in the cutterhad )and transported via hoppers onto the conveying system. The TBM conveyor transports the material for the complete length of the TBM to the transfer band between TBM and backup system. From there, the excavated material is transportet via conveyors either to the outside of the tunnel. So, I hope you find some answer to your question. Best regards from switzerland Manfred tunneling forever

Manfred, As everyone has said, the model is beyond fantastic, beyond words! Since I know nothing about TBMs, why is the real unit so very long? In your model, how much of the construction was done with metal? Is some of it plastic? Thanks.

TBM - I was going to say that I've seen TBM models on the Herrenknecht booth at a couple of shows - know I know who made them!
