So I picked up this LR1750 from Peter on Saturday at the Sumerlee model show (great show btw) and I got straight to work stripping it on Sunday.

I added a bit of detail to the cab and brush painted it in a custom colour that I mixed myself (very similar to RAL 6018 which is used by Sennebogen, but slightly lighter and with a few drops of unicorn tears) and this is what I got. The decals aren't perfect because the green loses its punch due to the white decal being very slightly translucent, but some paint will help conceal that.

Do you like the tracks? It's just LEGO track links with some styrene glued to make up the correct width for the 1.5m pads. I'll probably do another set for 2m pads which is what this crane should have, but I do prefer the narrower shoes. There are 78 links in total, which is much closer to the 70 on the original machine than what Conrad supply with the model... those unsightly chunky things.

That looks great! Tracks are definitely way better than the original ones.

If I am honest, the only thing that does let it down is the decals but you obviously already know this.

I cannot wait to see the finished product.

Excellent work and the tracks look great, much, much closer looking to the real machine.

It would be good if Conrad released a set of new tracks for the LR1750 - I would certainly buy a set.

I'm sure you'll sort the decals issue but tbh from what I can see it's a minor thing in the grand scale of the crane and the work you've done!.

Thanks guys - it's a very nice green, that's for sure!

The white text decals were really bugging me so I went round them with a small brush and I think it turned out pretty good - a lot better than before. Next job is to strip & paint some counterweights and also make a start on the boom sections.

That looks 10x better! Nicely done.

Decals maybe a minor thing Paul, but they can make or break a model in my opinion. I repainted my LG1750 Wm. Whyte outriggers 3 times because I wasn't happy with the decals.

You didn't waste time that looks great in that colour, are you going to make a ballast tray for it
Hope you enjoyed the show hope you will be there next year

the green is not shining too brightly to see. it relax your eyes very well to some extent.

I agree with Paul R - the decals definitely make or break a model repaint. The ones I'm using this time seem to have quite a thick carrier film but they'll do the job.

Peter, I hope to have a few more things to take with me next year! And yes I will see if I can make a ballast tray for the 1750... will probably be more difficult than the one for the 8800 but I'll make a start once I've finished the repaint.

Boom Logistics is definitely my favourite livery for this crane, hands down.

Making more progress one day at a time - I've given most of the superstructure parts a coat of green (just to get the thing set up) and will go over it again later. I'm using Humbrol enamel paints which cover REALLY well and are very resilient to scratching and chipping, so I'm painting directly onto the yellow for all the boom sections. Very time-consuming seeing that I'm brushing and not spraying, but the result is very satisfying and I'm really happy with the crane as it is.

I still have a lot of CWs to do and I'm hoping to build a tray for it when I get the time (and the patience), but for now I'm thinking about making cascaded spreader beams for my transformer and possibly some pendant lines.

On another note, I also had a bash at making a reducer section from styrene. Turned out to be a big undertaking but I managed it...just... however the tolerances are just too tight for this sort of thing without spending hours making a proper jig for it, and the styrene isn't rigid enough to cope with the heavy metal conrad boom pieces anyway.

So... does anybody have a spare Conrad boom reducer (main boom) they'd be willing to sell me?! Teeth

Superb work all around. The basic 1750 is still one of the best-looking crane models out there Applause

Thanks for the kind words guys, as always. Smile

I have almost finished the spreader beams so I decided to set them up today for a sort of "test fit" with the LR1750. I think it'll look nice when the beams are painted and weathered a little, like the transformer, and when proper slings and crimped ropes are fitted.

Anyway, enough talking - here's where I'm at now. The transformer had 1kg of lead in it. Teeth
