Well Guys, another milestone reached have finished priming all metal parts with last of the lattice boom sections finished, just a few plastic parts to prime, but need to use a different type of primer, there is not much plastic as I have managed to get the YCC metal pendant set for the LR1750, should have everything primed by tomorrow, so all being well will start to put some colour on the model thats when the fun begins Teeth
Couple of photos of today's progress

A primer layer is good idea for components being prone to manipulations I believe, but from my experience with die cast models, very few manufacturer are putting some.
Not Conrad nor NZG and very seldom WSI as far as I know. Eh?

Could you tell us the type of primer and colour coat you're using please, and any top coat as well? I'm always striving for the most durable finish - one that can withstand friction at pivot points and moving parts. Thanks, Jamie

Hi Jamie,

The primer is U-POL Acid#8 acid etch primer thinned with 10% thinners, colour coats are Octoral Octocryl 400-490 2 pack, mixed at 3:1 with HS Hardener H54 and 5 to10% uni thinner. Normally don't bother with a top coat.
Hope that helps not sure how durable it is but is mainly used for commercial applications and can get any RAL colour mixed.

I think these repaint threads are my favorite. Great job on this one bird man, coming along great. Others have said that yellow is a tough color to paint. I have a repaint of my own going on, but work and the weather always seem to pose their own challenges! Looking forward to seeing your progress

Another milestone reached have finally finished all the lattice boom sections, luffer, luffer A frames and hopefully all other pieces that need to be sprayed yellow, hope to start on the azure blue RAL5009 parts this week, need to go to my paint supplier and order a tin, but the weather over here has turned somewhat wet, windy and coldSad not the best conditions to spray in, anyway will have to see how it goes may have to get a heater in the workshop.

More in the next few days depending on the weatherThink

Almost done now; most of the azure blue RAL5009 parts sprayed, just the the ballast weights to do, hope to get them done in the next day or two

Have just noticed that the blue looks a lot lighter than it supposed to be, I can only put that down to the fact that I used flash on camera and I have slightly over exposed (must check exp compensation setting), the blue is a lot darker in real life

You may have noticed that I have done a few ballast weights with yellow on the edges, just experimenting trying to get the same effect as the ballast weights use on the LTM11200 etc

This is what I am aiming for

Once all ballast weights are done I will paint on by hand the black triangle Think once they are done the real fun begins putting it all back together again.

Very nice job! I think it's better to spray the triangle, It's a lot of work, but it looks very nice.

Wow, that's very professionnally executed.

And that Proxxon model MF70 micro milling machine showing on your work station next to the track body, driving me crazy... Pray

Hi Guys,

Seems ages since I last posted, had to catch up with a few other things around the house and also go to workSad . Still almost finished all the ballast weights just the black chevron/triangle to paint on the edges, very time consuming having to mask off the area. Have started to reassemble the model and replace all the brass sheaves to the boom sections as well as the ballast carrier, hopefully it should be all complete by the weekend, baring any more mishaps, have managed to break a couple of itemsd'oh!, did not notice that I had knocked the cab glazing on to the floor only found it when I stood on it, now in a dozen pieces, not to worry will sort something else out, somehow have managed to lose a few pieces, not sure howConfused but nothing to stop me from putting it all back, anyway here are some photos.

Ballast weights almost done !

Only 48 more to mask

What I am aiming for

Ballast carrier

Main upper structure and undercarriage

Operators cab minus glazing !

Hopefully if all goes to plan will have it all done by weekendTeeth

Steve.

I like the way the lighter color (yellow in this case) enhances the lower body components. Great job overall... Wink
