Hoping to get some updates and new pictures on the LTM1800 refurb tomorrow, i'm stuck down in Pembroke on a oil refinery for a while so not getting to see its progress. The booms back together now and the carrier is in the paint shop, indications are it'll be back on the road the end of the month. Here's a few pictures i've snapped over the last couple of weeks, been mostly on a LTM1500 and really getting about.      As i'm on a refinery at the moment I can't take pictures, shame as Sarens AK680 is here too but when i'm on the road i'll get all snap happy again. Enjoy Gaz

Gaz, Question, When using luffer do you use the larger boom section's for strength over the smaller. I hope you under stand where im coming from.

You got it mate, the tower will remain at 83degree and the radius adjusted on the luffer so because the tower stays near vertical the stronger sections are the obvious choice. The picture you quoted is interesting because the crane needed the luffer as it only had the outrigger beams partially extended. If the beams where fully extended (not enough space) then the 5 could have taken the tower crane down on main boom alone. the reason the luffer is used is it is a lot lighter than the main boom, this ment the radius was achieved but kept main boom weight central. It's also worth noting there is only 75t ballast on, because the luffer is so much lighter than main boom and the machine was on partial riggers any more ballast would have made it too back heavy. Ok thank you for conformation, I've seen heeps of pics of 1500's with luffer using 50m boom with the 2 larger sections(2&3 I think) out instead of the smaller sections.

I have question Gaz. To add height would you extend each of the boom sections to 50% as required or push the bottom two sections out to 100% or does this effect the the lift rating.

Had a flying visit to Stockton yard on friday just in time to see this arrive before it was back in the garage, its got a whole new lease of life.   The weights, feet and matts have been done too.  Boom is in the garage and is near enough finished.  Will not be too much longer till its back out working. Gaz

Action shot of the CC2800 placing 200t at quite a good height.  LG1550  1000's together and undergoing a few weeks of testing to make sure everything is working, looking good.  Just a quick update. Gaz
