I downloaded the drawings this morning and crunched some numbers and decided I might as well build the R9800 Backhoe !! I have built several of the worlds largest machines into models so far so I might as well build the current largest backhoe in the world. The model will be roughly 3 feet tall, 6.5 feet long and around 29" wide.

cat325ccr,

Liebherr 9800 specifications:

http://www.liebherr.com/me/en/products_mc.asp?menuID=106220!11929-0&metric=0

Komatsu PC8000 specifications:

http://www.komatsuamerica.com/?p=equipment&f1=view&prdt_id=774

Largest can have so many meanings: weight, size, bucket capacity, etc.

Basically, they both swing the same size bucket, but the Liebherr has a higher operating weight.

I also love that Komatsu !!! another great model project !! Does anyone have a straight on front view of the bucket and stick and possibly more detail of the top of the machine ? I been looking but no luck so far.

Oh YEA !! Excellent pictures !! Thanks a bunch !
This 9800 is being built for Kevin Anderson , but Leon wants a big shovel built also to be delivered to Indy in Aug. He thinks maybe a P&H 4100 in 1/12th scale. So i could be hauling two big shovels to Indiana this Aug.

I need more pictures of the top of the R-9800 , I just can't see enough yet to make all the top structures , does anyone have more of a top view ? also are any inside cab pictures available ? Any additional pictures would be great ! Thanks in advance.

I might have to end up building the Liebherr 996 trackhoe after all , if I can't find the cab pictures or the top view pictures , I can't build it . Og Well, the 996 is awesome too , I can always build the 9800 next year if more pictures become available.

Don, I don't have any pictures from inside the cab, but here are some shots of the top deck of the model Peter Keim built for Liebherr to display at MinExpo. Not a real machine, but this should be accurate as to what it should be like.

Thank you very much,
That will be the most important area I was unsure of. I'm sure I can find a inside cab picture of a 996 if I can't find a 9800. So it looks like the R-9800 is a go again , Thanks again.

Good work Brian, nice save! :D I can't be sure but I would suspect that the 996 and R8000 cabs wouldn't be too different internally.

Great choice Don! I look forward to watching the progress. Applause I also have a few photos of the 9800 model that was on display at MINExpo in September.

Here's a couple...

The rest of mine are on THIS page (just scroll down to the Liebherr booth). If the full size/high resolution versions of the photos would be helpful, just let me know and I will email them right over.

Tomorrow I will begin the first step to building the Liebherr R9800 Mass Excavator Model . I will start scaling up the drawings to 1/12th scale. Then in Less than ten days I will begin cutting out the very first parts and I am very excited to build it.

Here is the first drawing of the 9800 front view scaled up to 1/12th scale. The side view drawing will be 6.5 feet long.
